Attention

It has come to my attention that I have had no pictures in this blog. Which is a shame, I love pictures, they give you all something shiny to look at while you pretend to be reading.

To your left is a brass loose JPL weave chainmaille bracelet by moi. Yes, I do chainmaille bracelets in my off-hours.

Recently I've mastered a real pain-in-the-ass pattern called Viper's Scale, though ran out of rings to make the full bracelet so it'll have to wait.

I sell my bracelets, as well as keepsake Illuminated Letters (for weddings, births, christenings and more!) through my etsy shop Touch of Poison.

I like to keep busy. At the moment I'm working on mastering new patterns (so if you find one give me a shout out), I already know the box chain, the byzantine (IE Birdcage, Idiot's Delight etc), Jen's Pink Linkage (JPL) and now the Viper's Scale and hope to move on to Orbital patterns and the Camelot once I have rings in the correct AR.

Meanwhile, I'm sure you're dying to know what story I'll be doing for the month of July, well, it's Blood Lines. I've been poking it with a stick these past couple of days, reading it and thinking through the outline, and am pretty sure I can at last work on it.

I had a job interview the other day, quite pleased with that, and it looks like I've got another coming up next week.

Right now I'm on a cupcake rush as I try to perfect my lemon cake recipe, but at last I've got my peanut butter frosting down pat and am inordinately pleased with myself about it. I'll have to get pictures of cupcakes up here at some point....Anywho, that's all for now. Looking forward to the month of July and a trip down to TN with the the Family.

Cheers.

Regarding the Month of June

Do to mitigating circumstances, a lack of motivation brought on by job-hunting, settling into a new space and drama, I've called the Month of July a lost cause.

I've written some, but have decided instead to make this month a break and continue on in July with the Year Long Challenge. Do to this break-down, the challenge has been extended to July of 2011 rather than June 2011 as initially planned.

Good Omens

Today I read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Before this I have read Coraline, Going Postal, Making Money, that short story Neil wrote for that's in that grown up fairy tales book about the woman whose actually a fox and gets a tavern full of people to kill some guy, Neverwhere and watched Going Postal, Hogwatch, The Colour of Magic, Stardust and to this day am afraid of the Sandman.

I blame that for my insomnia, I really do.

Anyhow, as a fan of both authors, I was chagrined to discover that they had conjoined for a book and I had not read it. Justifiably, I was a toddler when the novel came out and only in recent years stumbled upon their awesomeness, but still.

Good Omens is a new favorite, hands down. I picked it up at bedtime, intending to read a chapter and then go into dreamland.

That did not occur. Firstly, there are no chapters, so that was foiled early on. Secondly, I couldn't stop once I started. The delightful back and forth between the angel (whose name I am too tired to attempt to spell) and Crowley, were enough for me but then there was the interplay of the WA and the Them and...I really couldn't pry myself away despite the knowledge that I will now either A) Sleep in well past when civilized folk who don't work the night shift are expected to or B) Sleep for a measly couple of hours, shower and be miserable and crabby for an entire day before going to sleep and likely napping on the couch and/or becoming a zombie.

But the point I want to make is this. Good Omens kept me awake and more than that--it gave me hope. I often reach for Mr. Pratchett when I'm feeling a mite down and Mr. Gaiman get's my attention when I'm in an ill-temper, the combination of both turned to be the precise application of macabre and humor that my inner monster required.

The edition with inclusion of Neil/Terry's take on Terry/Neil is delightful and gives me renewed hope that someday, one day, I will find one person willing to publish me and that I will earn the distinction of being called, A Writer.

I Write Like...

I write like
Ursula K. Le Guin

I Write Like by Mémoires, Mac journal software. Analyze your writing!

So I took the I Write Like thingy that's become so popular in recent days. I have never read any of Ursula's books so...I've no idea if this is good or not.

Day Thirty-one

First Month:

That's right, I made it. Yes, I do feel like my fingers are going to fall off, and no, I am not to exhausted to go on! I shall persevere!

Second Month:

No, I haven't written anything today. That's because what writing I accomplished yesterday was on an airplane as I headed back across the country. So, this means I've been spending today settling in and job-hunting.

But a single day missed is something I can recover from. This month I will be working on Bloodlines, which has about 24,000 words to it's credit (I'll get a proper count up tomorrow), and Black Moon which has about 16,000 words to it's credit.

A Nefarious and Evil Tale finished off at around 57,000 words, well above goal, and has gone into cold storage pending next years challenge. Yes, it's a year long editing challenge. I have issues.

So, in any case, I think it's going rather well, and shall continue on in the pursuit of word count glory!

Cheers
